Beginning of the Stuart Highway

The Stuart Highway runs north-south through
the center of Australia and is the only paved road within about a thousand
miles on either side of it. I was now entering the real Australian
Outback, and standing here by this sign and staring into the great beyond, I
honestly felt like I'd reached the end of
civilization.
