Kangaroo Crossing
Ayers
Rock,
Australia (March 2002)
Ayers Rock is one of the most famous icons of
Australia, and rightfully so. Out of respect for Aborigine wishes, and
unlike lots of other tourists, I decided not to hike to the top of it.
Instead, I hiked around it -- a much more challenging task. In the
100-degree heat, it took me about two hours to circumnavigate "the rock,"
and what better way to celebrate a successful hike than having a kangaroo burger?
