Before I left my job in Portland, I sent
"cold call" e-mails to people in several of my company's offices in Australia
and New Zealand, including
a fellow named Peter Horn in Newcastle, north of Sydney. Peter and I
kept in touch during the next year and when I reached Newcastle, I finally
got to meet him. He and his wife, Helen, put me up for a weekend, fed
me, and even showed me around the Blue Mountains. Aussie hospitality
at its best.
