Washington
In the fall of 2002, I was getting ready
to move back to Portland after my 18-month journey when my father was suddenly
diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, so I decided to stay in Bellingham to
help take care of him. Sadly, he passed away a few months later. My Dad grew up during the Depression,
fought during
World War II, then became a leading educator after the war.
He was intelligent, modest, compassionate and a real visionary, and we all
dearly miss him.
