78). The Oman Desert
Near
Nizwa, Oman (January 2009)
In 2009 I flew to the Middle East again for work.
After working all week in Abu Dhabi, I rented a tiny car and set off to
explore the vast, desert country of Oman. I only spent three days in
Oman but I made the most of it and drove over 1,000 miles. Oman is a
land of contrasts, with mountains over 10,000 feet high, long beaches, and
vast sand dunes. During my drive, I spotted a number of camels,
including this fellow standing beside the road. Very few Omanis I met
spoke English but they were all warm and gracious to this lone American.
