American Basin at 11,000'
Near
Lake City, Colorado (July 2002)
This was part of my patrol area when I worked
as a BLM ranger in the Colorado Rockies back in the 1980s. To the left
is 14,000-foot Handies Peak and to the right is 12,600-foot Cinnamon Pass,
one of the highest roads in the U.S. This area is usually
covered by snow in early July but due to a prolonged drought, there was
hardly any snow to be seen. Still, though, it was nice to be back.
