Yep,
it's been a long time since I've updated my website. In case you were
wondering what happened to me, here's a summary of my trip since June:
-
After
driving down the Oregon Coast, I visited northern California and drove
across Nevada to Colorado.
-
I
spent a couple weeks in July visiting
southwestern Colorado, where I used to work as a ranger in the Rockies.
-
After
returning to Bellingham, I went cruising on the British Columbia coast for 2
weeks in August with my brother and his wife on a 46-foot power boat (no, we
didn't manage to sink it).
-
Then
I spent
a few weeks in Bellingham during August seeing relatives and doing lots of
"family reunion" things.

The
Realities of Life
The
reason that I haven't updated my website in a long time is that I've been pretty
busy lately. I was planning to move back to Portland this fall and
return to work. Unfortunately, however, my 79-year old father was diagnosed with pancreatic
cancer in early September. As
you may know, pancreatic cancer is especially quick and especially deadly, and
the doctors expect that my Dad will live for only another few months, if
that.
So, instead
of going back to work, I've decided to stay here at my Dad's house here in Bellingham this fall
to help him out. Things have been pretty stressful, as you
can probably imagine, but my Dad admits that he's had a good life and he doesn't
regret his fate.
I
apologize for not returning many e-mails during the past two months, but I hope
people will understand that other things in my life have suddenly become much
more important. I've been reading my e-mail messages, but I just haven't
had much time to respond. Also, I'd ask my friends to please not call
me here because things are pretty hectic right now (although e-mails are always appreciated). As for me, I'm doing all right
because I know that my Dad has had a full and very rich life, and that he's
content with his situation.
I'll
be revising this page soon along with the other pages listed above, with longer
and (hopefully) more eloquent entries. I'll also have more to say about my Dad and
about what a remarkable life he's had, so please check back soon.
