Before I left my job in Portland, I sent blind e-mails to people in several of my company's offices in Australia and
New Zealand, introducing myself and asking if I could stop by and say hi. I sent one e-mail to a fellow named Peter
Horn in Newcastle, north of Sydney, and he and I kept in touch during the next year. When I reached Newcastle I got
to meet Peter, and he and his wife, Helen, put me up for a weekend, fed me, and showed me around the Blue Mountains.
It was Aussie hospitality at its best.
