63).  A Frisky Elk    Olympic National Park, Washington (June 2002)

After I returned to the U.S. in April, I spent a few months at my dad's house in Bellingham, Washington getting ready for my second road trip around America, then I took off.  One of my first stops was at Hoh campground, nestled in Washington's Olympic rain forest.  One morning while eating breakfast there, I had a close encounter of the elk kind.  Apparently it was calving season and the Olympic elk, including this one, were being aggressive towards the campers.  She charged at me several times, so I kept my truck safely between us for 20 minutes until she left.
