My father and his brother Bill were lifelong best friends. My dad passed away in 2002 and my Uncle Bill passed away suddenly six months later. This is Bill in 1941 after he had volunteered with the U.S. Navy, six months before the attack on Pearl Harbor. His navy ship, the U.S.S. Neosho, was bombed at Pearl Harbor and was sunk six months later during the Battle of the Coral Sea. Bill, like my father, had a lot of character and was a wonderful person, and they were part of what was rightly known as "The Greatest Generation."
