For those of you who don't live in the southern U.S., Krispy Kreme is a brand of donuts that, as of my trip around America
in 2001, were primarily found in the south. But just like kudzu, they're beginning to make their way north and west.
I got my first bag of these delicious donuts in Vicksburg, Mississippi during my visit there in July 2001 and devoured them that afternoon
while driving north on the Natchez Trace Parkway. The cold quart of milk rounded out my lunch that day.
Krispy Kremes look like regular donuts and come in a variety of flavors (glazed, jelly-filled, cream-filled, etc.), but they have a softer
texture than most donuts. I think they use more lard during the frying or baking process, because I could taste the fat on my tongue for
several hours after I ate them. I didn't care, though, because they were so darn gooooood.
